GEM Wins Versailles Prize for Best Museum Design of 2024

The Grand Egyptian Museum has been awarded the prestigious Versailles Prize as one of the seven most beautiful museums of 2024 in a ceremony organized by UNESCO in Paris. This award recognizes the museum’s outstanding architectural design, which blends creativity, local heritage reflection, and environmental efficiency, further enhancing its status as a global landmark.

The award was presented to Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Egypt's permanent representative to UNESCO. Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, praised this achievement, which coincides with the museum’s trial opening, emphasizing its role in attracting both local and international visitors. He also thanked everyone who contributed to the completion of this monumental national project, which stands as one of Egypt's greatest modern achievements and the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.

Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum , explained that the Versailles Prize is one of the international awards presented annually since 2015 at UNESCO’s headquarters to recognize the best contemporary architectural designs worldwide, covering museums, sports facilities, hotels, and airports. He explained that the museum's design was inspired by the rays of sunlight extending from the peaks of the three Pyramids of Giza, converging into the conical form of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
