New Formation of the Grand Egyptian Museum Board of Trustees
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued Presidential Decree No. 600 of 2024, approving the reformation of the Board of Trustees for the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority for a three-year term, with the President of the Republic as its chairman. The aim of this new structure is to support the museum's vision of becoming a global cultural and heritage center while reinforcing its position as one of the world's most significant cultural landmarks.
The new board includes five prominent Arab and international figures, such as former Japanese Prime Minister Tarō Asō, Yuji Kurihara, Deputy Director-General of Japan’s National Museum of Nature and Science, Prince Sultan bin Salman, Advisor to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the first Arab astronaut, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization in an official capacity.
On the Egyptian side, the board includes 11 high-profile figures, including the Ministers of Tourism and Antiquities, Culture, and Finance, along with the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Other notable members include renowned Egyptologist and former Minister of Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni, and Banque Misr CEO Hisham Okasha.
The board also includes businessman Mohamed Lotfy Mansour, media personality Sherif Amer, United Nations Under-Secretary-General Ghada Waly, and Dr. Khaled El-Enany, former Minister of Antiquities and Egypt’s candidate for UNESCO Director-General.
This new formation reflects Egypt’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening international partnerships.
