Description

A remarkable painted wooden statue of a high official named Ishetji who served as ‘Sealer of the King of Lower Egypt’ towards the end of Dynasty 6. His burial shaft, discovered at Saqqara in 1950, housed a group of wooden statues and statuettes including this one. Ishetji is here shown with his left leg forward, holding a sekhem sceptre in his right hand and a long staff in the left. His body is finely carved using the lightness of wood to emphasize the natural movement of the active Ishetji.
