Description

Bakenkhonsu (III) was a 'First Prophet of Amun at Karnak' in Dynasty 20. His statue was discovered in 1904 in the Karnak Cache (CK 75). Upon its discovery, the head was found separated from the rest of the statue. Bakenkhnosu (III) stands with his left leg forward. He holds a ram-headed staff (symbol of the god Amun) in both hands. On the head of the ram is a uraeus snake, and around its neck is the wesekh collar. He wears a long robe with flared sleeves and a triangular apron. On the left side of the statue, his son Amenemopet is represented holding the khou-fan. On the two shoulders of the statue are the cartouches of King Ramesses III.  Bakenkhnosu’s name and titles are written on the pedestal. Two offering prayers, on the ram-headed staff and on the back pillar, invoke the deities to grant him offerings.
