The ‘Dendera Treasure Hoards’ were caches of spectacular gold and silver objects, including statues of deities, ritual instruments, jewellery and mirrors. The caches were discovered at Dendera in the area between the temple proper and its enclosure wall. This heavily oxidised silver statue was among the objects discovered in 1918 near the sacred lake south-west of the temple of Dendera. It shows the god Ihy nude, his body slightly tilted forward and his arms hanging down beside his body. He wears a skull cap and a heart-amulet hangs on his chest. Ihy personified joy and music in ancient Egypt. His well-fed belly symbolises his ability to bring prosperity and abundance. The statue is almost identical with GEM 2558 (also from the same Dendera Treasure Hoard)
