Description

A statue of a goddess (probably Isis or Hathor) from the so-called ‘Dendera Treasure Hoard’ - a votive ritual hoard of silver, gold and bronze objects discovered in 1918 near the sacred lake, south-west of the Dendera temple. The statue is almost identical with GEM 2561 (also from the same Dendera Treasure Hoard). The seated goddess wears a tripartite hair wig topped with a fillet, a uraeus snake and a double crown. She wears a broad collar and a close-fitting dress. Her right hand is clenched on her lap, suggesting that it once held a sceptre as indicated by the centred hole in her fist, while the other hand rests flat.
