Description
The ancient Egyptians had been making footwear since the Early Dynastic Period. They used a variety of materials, such as fibre, straw, leather and wood. This pair of sandals was found among other funerary equipment in the tomb of Mesehti who served as a provincial governor of Asyut in Dynasty 11. They have wooden soles and white leather straps supported by two vertical poles near the back of the sandal.
