Description

The so-called 'Dendera Treasure Hoards' were caches of spectacular silver, gold and bronze objects of great art-historical value, including divine statuettes, ritual instruments, jewellery and mirrors. The caches were discovered in and around the Dendera temple (the area between the temple and its enclosure wall). This gilt-silver amulet in the form of hawk inside a naos (shrine) was part of a votive ritual hoard discovered in 1918 near the sacred lake of the temple. It was found along with a mummified hawk inside a hawk figure consisting of two parts as if a box and its lid.
