Description
This ivory headrest has a slim wide base with a central pillar shaped as a kneeling figure of god Shu (air) holding with upraised arms a gracefully curved head support. Flanking god Shu are two crouching lions representing the two guardians of the horizon. Details of the god’s hair and kilt are coloured in black. A strip of text providing King Tutankhamun’s names and titles is written down the back of the kneeling figure. The king’s head resting on the curved head support emulated the sun disc being raised out of the Netherworld by the god Shu.
