Description

Two almost identical portrait statues of King Tutankhamun flanked the sealed entrance to his Burial Chamber. The two figures possibly represented the king and his ka (soul). This statue is wearing a khat headdress and a pleated royal kilt, and holds a mace and a long staff. An inscription down the front of its kilt says: ‘The good god, the sovereign, the royal ka of Horakhty, Osiris, the king, lord of the lands, Nebkheperure, justified’. The bulging abdomens, relatively slim legs and pierced ears of the statues reflect the Amarna style of art, common during the reign of King Akhenaten.
