Description

This group statue was found in the Karnak Cache (CK 96). It represents the god Amun-Re enthroned between King Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose, reflecting the close relationship between the divine and royalty. Thutmose I passes his left arm behind Amun and holds a royal handkerchief in his right hand. Amun holds an ankh sign (life) in his right hand and places his other hand on the left shoulder of Queen Ahmose. The queen’s right arm passes behind Amun, while her left hand is extended flat on her thigh. Interestingly, although it is King Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose of early Dynasty 18 who are named in the text, the modelling of the facial features recalls a style common under Tutankhamun. It is, therefore, possible that the group had fallen victim to Akhenaten’s religious revolution and was later restored under Tutankhamun.
