Description
This head, carved from a single block of wood, was found with the throat wrapped in a large piece of linen like a scarf around its neck. The lower part of the cow’s neck is painted black, while the upper neck, head and ears are covered in gold foil. Her copper covered wooden horns were painted with a thick layer of black resin. Wooden statues of gods were part of royal funerary equipment and cow heads were also found in the tombs of Amenhotep II and Thutmose IV. They probably represented Hathor, goddess of the West, welcoming the dead into her world.
