Description

Discovered in the colonnade of King Thutmose I between the fourth and fifth pylons at the Great Temple of Amun and Karnak, this colossal dyad represents god Amun and his consort goddess Mut. It was found in pieces that were reassembled in 1998/1999. The goddess Mut sits to Amun’s right, embracing him with her left arm. Amun’s left hand grasps an ankh sign (life). He wears a broad collar, an elaborate corselet and a pleated kilt. The double feathered crown atop his head is mostly lost. Mut wears a double crown, a tripartite wig with a uraeus snake, a vulture headdress and a feathered dress with two straps. The texts on the throne and on the statue base name King Horemheb of Dynasty 18. Interestingly, the facial features of the divine couple also reflect that of Horemheb and his wife Queen Mutnedjmet.
