Description
Valued for its gorgeous colour, lapis lazuli was brought to Egypt (possibly from Afghanistan) through its extensive trade networks. This lapis lazuli necklace from the Tod Treasure is a statement piece. It is composed of wedge-shaped beads in the style of the famous ‘Fly Pendants’ known in ancient Egypt from Predynastic times through the late New Kingdom. The large wedge-shaped beads are pierced by two or three holes and are joined by two rows of round beads to create a collar.
