Description
This elaborately detailed miniature gold coffin is one of a set of four coffinettes placed inside the canopic chest to contain the king’s mummified internal organs. It is made of solid gold decorated with red carnelian and tiny inlays of coloured glass. It shows a king in a royal nemes headcloth holding a crook and flail. The column of text down the front of the coffinette is a spell voiced by the goddess Isis. The royal cartouches show traces of alternation suggesting that the coffinette was originally intended for another royal burial.
