Description
Tutankhamun’s mummified viscera (liver, lungs, intestines and stomach) were held inside four miniature coffins similar in design to his second anthropoid coffin. Made of beaten solid gold, the coffinettes are exquisitely decorated in a feathered pattern inlaid with red carnelian and coloured glass. Each shows a king wearing a royal nemes headcloth protected by a vulture and a uraeus snake and clutching a crook and a flail. Scenes and inscriptions inside this coffinette show that it is associated with the goddess Nephthys.
