Description
This bronze libation (ritual pouring of liquid) jar is from the tomb of Mesehti who served as a provincial governor of Asyut in Dynasty 11. As a powerful and important man, Mesehti was given a rich burial. The vase is well-polished with a relatively wide rim, short neck and a tapering body. A masterpiece of ancient Egyptian metalwork, it shows no traces of soldering.
