Description
This small statue is probably of a royal woman. It can be dated by its hairstyle to the Middle Kingdom. The woman is wearing a bouffant style hair wig that ends in large curls. This hairstyle was associated with goddess Hathor and is reminiscent of two statues of Queen Nofret II, wife of King Senwosret II of Dynasty 12. Traces of a feather pattern covering the shoulders of the statue suggest its body may have been that of a bird.
