Description
This small gold bowl was discovered in 1936 among other artefacts of the Tod Treasure. It is made of a very thin sheet of gold. The base has three circles and curving bands emanate from this central motif, all made by repoussé (shaping metal by hammering from the reverse side). The shape and style of many bowls in the Tod Treasure are not Egyptian in origin but come from the ancient Near East and Mediterranean. The bowl is similar in shape and style to the grave goods found in the Sumerian Tombs of Ur in southern Iraq.
