Description
Sekhmet, whose name means ‘she who is powerful’, was associated with fire and destruction, and also with protection of the king. King Amenhotep III placed 365 sitting and 365 standing statues of the goddess, one for every day of the year, in his mortuary cult temple on the West Bank at Thebes. About 300 years later some of the statues were transported across the River Nile to a temple of the goddess Mut at Karnak.
