Description

The term ‘Donation Stelae’ refers to stelae that record a donation of land to a temple. These stelae date from the Third Intermediate Period to Dynasty 26. Although the actual donors of the stelae were often non-royal people, yet the reigning king was usually depicted as the official donor. This limestone rounded top stela was discovered at Hermopolis Magna (Ashmunein) in Upper Egypt. It is dated by its inscriptions to year 13 of the reign of King Apries, the fourth king of Dynasty 26. The stela is topped by the winged sun disc. Below, King Apries is making an offering to the sacred bull Apis. The eight lines of hieroglyphic text at the bottom of the stela indicate that the donation was made by Padiest son of Paenouhem.
