Description
Discovered in 1859, in the porticoed courtyard of the Temple of Osiris-Khentiimentiu at Abydos, this red granite colossal was shaped to reflect an interesting vigour. Here, King Senwosret I of Dynasty 12 is represented in an Osiride form wearing the white crown of Upper Egypt. His face looks young with a smiling expression and stylized eyebrows that dominate his eyes. Under the kings’ feet are the nine bows, symbols of the traditional enemies of ancient Egypt.
