Description

Tutankhamun’s canopic chest was hollowed into four cylindrical hollows, each concealed a miniature coffin wrapped in linen. The coffinettes held the internal organs that were removed during the mummification process. Elaborately fashioned of gold inlaid with carnelian and coloured glass, these miniature coffins are remarkable examples of goldsmith art. The inscription down the front of this coffinette are words spoken by the goddess Neith. It was her duty to protect Duamutef who in turn protected the mummified stomach of the king.
